Article: I Should Be Further Along By Now

I Should Be Further Along By Now

I Should Be Further Along By Now

You ever have that quiet thought creep in…

“I should be further along by now.”

This may contain: a woman sitting at a table with an open laptop in front of her and papers everywhere around her

I was having lunch with a friend of mine who’s in real estate, and she said it out loud.

Not dramatically. Not for sympathy.

Just… honestly.

She felt behind this year.

Behind in her career.

And worse—she felt bad about it.

And I just sat there thinking…

I know this feeling way too well.

The Part No One Talks About

Entrepreneurship can feel like you’re being put through a blender.

One minute you’re up.

Next minute you’re questioning everything.

And the hardest part?

It’s lonely.

You don’t always have a boss, a roadmap, or someone telling you,

“Hey, you’re actually doing better than you think.”

So what do we do?

We default to measuring ourselves against where we think we should be.

That’s when we fall into what Dan Sullivan calls:

The Gap vs. The Gain

The Gap = measuring yourself against an ideal you haven’t reached yet

The Gain = measuring yourself against how far you’ve come

Most of us live in the gap.

And it will drain you if you stay there too long.

What Pulled Me Out (Over and Over Again)

I told my friend something I’ve had to remind myself of many times:

When I get stuck… I don’t try to figure it out alone.

I go find an expert.

Not Google. Not guessing.

An actual person who has already done what I’m trying to do.

And honestly?

It’s been one of the most profitable habits of my life.

The $5K That Changed Everything

Over 25 years ago, when I was just starting my business, I did something that felt… insane.

I paid a young woman $5,000 to spend an entire day with me and teach me everything she knew about her business.

At the time, that was a huge amount of money.

And I remember thinking:

“Should I really be doing this?”

But I did it anyway.

That one day…

→ Made me $200,000 in my first year

→ Saved me YEARS of mistakes

→ And honestly… probably made me millions over time

Because she removed the guesswork.

And I’ve Done It Again… and Again…

I’ve hired skincare experts to build routines specifically for my skin

(I’m convinced my skin would not look like this without them)

I’ve hired stylists to refine how I dress and show up

(Which completely changed how I feel in my clothes)

I’ve hired marketing coaches—even after getting my MBA

(Because theory and real-world performance are not the same)

And every single time, the result is the same:

Clarity → Confidence → Speed

Why This Matters for You

Here’s the truth most business owners don’t want to hear:

You are not stuck because you’re not working hard enough.

You’re stuck because you’re trying to figure everything out yourself.

And that is the slowest, most expensive way to grow.

I’ve spent 25+ years mastering this.

What works.

What doesn’t.

What actually moves product.

And I can show you quickly.

If you want:

  1. Higher average tickets

  2. More confident staff

  3. Inventory that actually moves

Stop guessing.

Let’s fix it.

Tell me a time that works. Turn your staff into confident belt stylists — in just 20 minutes.

Or—if you want to see exactly what’s working right now—

Here’s the Shift

If you’ve been feeling like…

“I should be further along by now”

Try this instead:

Don’t go faster.

Go smarter.

Find the expert.

Shorten the path.

Remove the guesswork.

My Motto

Find the expert.

Learn directly from the source.

Collapse time.

If You Want Help…

If you want to:

→ Sell more clothing without adding more inventory

→ Create a styling experience your customers remember

→ Actually move the belts you already have

Then let’s do a quick training together.

I’ll show you exactly how to make belts work in your store.

Not theory.

Not fluff.

Real, practical shifts you can implement immediately.

Because if there’s one thing I know for sure…

You’re probably a lot closer than you think.

Xo,

Ada

P.S. Let me know a good day and time to connect.

Or… if you’re curious what this one magical accessory could do for your store, take a look at the line sheet here.
